Workshop Series
Journaling, Memoir & Personal Narrative
Writing for Women
With Lisa Yarger
Four Sundays:
October 13, October 20,
October 27, November 3, 2019
Time: 13:30 – 17:00
Cost: 135 Euros for the series
Participation limited to 10 women
We women journal for all kinds of reasons: to document our lives, chart growth, vent, express gratitude, face fears, set goals, develop a writing practice, keep track of ideas for projects, clear our minds, explore our thinking, and more. We'll explore why women journal and we'll keep journals ourselves, with the option of sharing journal entries with each other. We'll also read short pieces of memoir by women writers and look at how memoir writing differs from journaling. We'll use listening partnerships and journal entries to help us discover how particular moments and experiences fit into the plot lines of our own life, and we'll use those discoveries to create short pieces of memoir.
Participants will be asked to keep a handwritten journal during the workshop series. In addition, participants will be given short reading assignments to complete at home.
This workshop will be in English, but both English native speakers and women who speak/write in another language are welcome to take part.

Feedback from previous participants:
What I liked best was the opportunity to talk about my writing with others, the feedback, the readings, and the fact that it got me really writing again. The whole thing was great!!
I gained more confidence. I'll take with me the knowledge that there's at least one roomful of people interested in reading my story! And I got new perspectives on how a memoir can be framed/structured.
It was very inspiring and a lot of fun. It helped me find more focus and lots of topics I could write about.
I liked being able to see that memoirs take all forms, and that there is no one style that works. It also allowed me to see what writing styles work for me.
It was really important for me to become okay with writing about myself and to figure out what makes me want to do so.
